Mokelumne
River Fishing & Conservation
by Bill Ferrero

March 24, 2011-
Careful what you wish for! I
know we all need our water but
this is getting old. Due to
run-off from higher elevations
and the task of juggling water
in the reservoirs, current flows
on the Lower Mokelumne below
Camanche Dam are at
3,400cfs. This
big flow makes floating
extremely dangerous and fishing
almost impossible. My advice,
stay off the river and if the
fishing bug bites hard, stay on
the bank and be careful! This
time of year high currents
undercut banks and erosion makes
for slippery, unstable banks. If
you do venture out, take a
partner and wear a life vest.
Fishing from Camanche Dam to the
Highway 99 bridge in Lodi closes
March 31st. Fishing for the
entire river re-opens the fourth
Saturday in May.
